Driven by policy measures from the Ministry of Education, National Intellectual Property Administration, and Ministry of Science and Technology, China's university technology transfer mechanisms have become more refined, researchers' enthusiasm for transformation has grown, and conversion efficiency continues to improve annually.
As critical indicators for measuring university scientific innovation effectiveness, patent statistics and patent citation data provide quantitative and qualitative support respectively. CnOpenData's university patent database comprises statistical data and citation/cited data, with the former divided into quantity statistics tables and quality statistics tables. These tables are further categorized based on patent applications and grants. Notably, the quality statistics are subdivided into three patent types: inventions, utility models, and designs. Citation relationships are captured in the Patent Details Tables, following the same structure as corporate patent data with four modules:
- Invention applications
- Granted inventions
- Utility models
- Designs
Each module contains four tables: Basic Information, Citations, Cited References, and Transactions (design patents exclude citation/cited/transaction tables).
As a pioneering component of CnOpenData's patent series, this dataset introduces comprehensive quality metrics through three dimensions:
- Patent counts by completion type (independent vs. collaborative)
- Technological complexity measured by 1-digit, 2-digit, and 4-digit IPC classifications
- Annual cumulative citations from publication year to five years post-publication
Covering 2,740 universities across 31 provinces and 300+ cities based on the Ministry of Education's official list, this dataset features complete temporal coverage, rich fields, and rigorous structure, significantly enhancing CnOpenData's patent database ecosystem.
