Introduction to Basic Information Data of Industrial and Commercial Registered Enterprises in the Mining Industry
The mining industry refers to the extraction of naturally occurring minerals in solid (e.g., coal and ores), liquid (e.g., crude oil), or gaseous (e.g., natural gas) forms, including underground or surface mining operations, mine management, and all ancillary activities typically conducted at or near mining sites for raw material processing. These activities encompass crushing, mineral separation, and treatment, as well as preparatory work required for raw material sales. However, it excludes water storage, purification, and distribution, along with geological exploration and construction engineering activities.
Raw materials extracted by the mining industry serve as the starting point of the global economic supply chain. Decarbonization of the mining sector is critical for achieving global emission targets, particularly under the energy transition that demands increasing supplies of clean energy raw materials. China's mining industry is undergoing a pivotal transformation, facing significant challenges in strengthening mine ecological restoration, improving mineral resource development and conservation standards, advancing green mining practices, and establishing sustainable mines.
Based on the National Economic Industry Classification, CnOpenData has compiled basic information of industrially and commercially registered mining enterprises in China from 1950 to 2021. This dataset categorizes enterprises into seven major sectors: coal mining and washing, petroleum and natural gas extraction, ferrous metal mining and processing, non-ferrous metal mining and processing, non-metallic mineral mining and processing, specialized mining support activities, and other mining industries, vividly illustrating the development trajectory of China's mining industry since the founding of the People's Republic.
