    Introduction to China Automotive Energy Consumption Data

  The mandatory national standard Fuel Consumption Limits for Passenger Vehicles (GB19578-2021), formulated and implemented by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), officially took effect on July 1, 2021. This standard specifies fuel consumption limits for M1-class vehicles fueled by gasoline or diesel with a maximum design total mass not exceeding 3,500 kg. Its promulgation and implementation are of significant importance for promoting energy conservation and emission reduction in automotive products, fostering healthy and sustainable industrial development, and supporting China's strategic goals of achieving carbon peaking and carbon neutrality.

  The standard indicates that before 2025, the test cycles for traditional energy-powered passenger vehicles and plug-in hybrid electric passenger vehicles will transition from NEDC to WLTC. This shift in test cycles will impact the comprehensive fuel consumption measurements. Concurrently, testing methodologies will also be updated: the load method in Test Methods for Fuel Consumption of Light-Duty Vehicles (GB/T19233-2020) will transition from inertial mass loading to continuous loading. Compared to NEDC, the WLTC standard is stricter and more rigorous, better reflecting real-world driving conditions. Under WLTC, fuel consumption for internal combustion engine vehicles and the driving range of electric vehicles align more closely with actual usage.

  The release of this mandatory standard addresses the regulatory needs of government authorities for automotive energy efficiency management, effectively reducing vehicular carbon emissions and promoting healthy, orderly, and green development within the automotive industry. Additionally, it incorporates updates to related standards and advancements in technological capabilities by adjusting fuel consumption metrics to ensure a smooth transition for the automotive industry amid changes in testing cycles and technical requirements.

  In this context, CnOpenData introduces the China Automotive Energy Consumption Dataset, comprehensive data covering both historical and updated versions of automotive energy consumption information released in China since 2010, including fields such as manufacturer (生产企业), vehicle model (车辆型号), vehicle category (车辆种类), announcement date (通告日期), and displacement (排量). The updated version further distinguishes between traditional energy and new energy vehicles to better support academic research.
