    Introduction to China Automotive Energy Consumption Data

 &sp;The mandatory national standard "Fuel Consumption Limits for Passenger Cars" (GB19578-2021), organized and formulated by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, was officially implemented on July 1, 2021. This standard specifies fuel consumption limit requirements for M1 category vehicles (equivalent to EU passenger cars) fueled by gasoline or diesel with a maximum design total mass not exceeding 3,500 kg in the coming period. Its release and implementation hold significant importance for promoting energy conservation and emission reduction in automotive products, fostering healthy and sustainable industrial development, and supporting the achievement of China's carbon peak and carbon neutrality strategic goals.

  The standard indicates that before 2025, the test cycles for traditional energy passenger cars and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) will shift from NEDC to WLTC. This change in test cycles will affect the comprehensive fuel consumption of vehicles. Concurrently, testing methodologies will also be updated: the loading method in "Test Methods for Fuel Consumption of Light-duty Vehicles" (GB/T19233-2020) will transition from inertial mass loading to constant speed method (dyno testing). Compared to the NEDC standard, the WLTC standard is more stringent with higher evaluation rigor, better reflecting actual road driving conditions. Under WLTC, fuel consumption for conventional vehicles and range for electric vehicles more closely align with real-world driving performance.

  The release of this mandatory standard addresses the regulatory needs of government authorities regarding automotive energy efficiency, enabling effective reduction of automotive carbon emissions and promoting the healthy, orderly, and green development of the automotive industry. Furthermore, it comprehensively considers updates to relevant standards and advancements in technological capabilities, adjusting fuel consumption targets to ensure a smooth transition for the automotive industry amid technical changes such as the shift in test cycles.

  Against this backdrop, CnOpenData introduces China Automotive Energy Consumption Data, comprising automotive energy consumption information published in China since 2010 across both legacy and updated versions. The dataset encompasses fields such as manufacturer, vehicle model, vehicle type, notice date, and displacement. The updated version further distinguishes between traditional energy vehicles and new energy vehicles (NEVs) to better support relevant academic research.
