Since human society entered the information age, the rapid development and widespread application of digital technologies have given rise to the digital economy. Distinct from the agrarian economy of the agricultural era and the industrial economy of the industrial era, the digital economy represents a new form of economy, a new driving force, and a new business model. It has triggered profound and comprehensive transformations in society and the economy. At present, digital technologies, products, and services are accelerating their penetration into traditional industries in multi-directional, multi-layered, and multi-chain ways—termed digitalization of industries—while also promoting the continuous growth and expansion of digital industry chains and clusters—referred to as digital industrialization.
Currently, the digital economy has become a new engine driving China's high-quality and rapid economic growth. The various new business models spawned by the digital economy will also constitute significant new growth points in China's economy. To provide better support for digital economy innovation and development, China issued the "Correspondence Table of Digital Economy Core Industry Classification and International Patent Classification (2023)" in March 2023. This document aligns the International Patent Classification with the core industries of the digital economy, maximizing the coverage of patents related to the digital economy's core industries. It also offers a clearer and more accurate foundation for the construction of relevant patent databases.
Based on the aforementioned standard as the guiding document for database construction and matched with the list of Chinese universities released by the Ministry of Education, CnOpenData provides patent-related data on the digital economy in Chinese universities. Structurally, this dataset is categorized into inventive disclosure (发明公布), authorized invention (发明授权), and utility model (实用新型) based on patent types, each containing a basic information table and a transaction table to present basic and legal status information. It complements the digital economy patent data and citation data for Chinese universities, aiming to provide the academic community with higher-quality and more advanced topic-specific data support for the digital economy.
