Since human society entered the information age, the rapid development and widespread application of digital technologies have given rise to the digital economy. Distinct from the agricultural economy of farming times and the industrial economy of industrial times, the digital economy represents a new form of economy, a new driving force, and a new business model, triggering profound transformations across society and the economy. Currently, digital technologies, products, and services are rapidly penetrating traditional industries in multiple directions, levels, and dimensions—a process termed digital industrialization. Simultaneously, they are propelling the growth of digital industry chains and clusters—a process known as digitalization of industries.
The digital economy now serves as a new driver for China's high-quality and rapid economic growth. Various new business models emerging from this digital transformation are poised to become crucial new growth points for China's economy. To bolster innovation-driven digital economic growth, China released the "Reference Relationship Table between Core Industries of Digital Economy and International Patent Classification (2023)" in March 2023. This document aligns international patent classifications with core digital economy industries, maximizing coverage of patents relevant to these industries while establishing a clearer, more accurate foundation for building related patent databases.
Prior to this updated standard, CnOpenData utilized the "Statistical Classification for Digital Economy and Its Core Industries (2021)" and patent classifications mapped to national economic industry classifications as foundational documents. CnOpenData now bases its database development on the new standard "Reference Relationship Table between Core Industries of Digital Economy and International Patent Classification (2023)". We are launching a series of digital economy patent data categorized by region and industry to provide the academic community with higher-quality, more advanced thematic data on the digital economy.
CnOpenData's China Digital Economy Patent Citations and Cited Data is structured into two tables: the Citations Information Table and the Cited Information Table. These primarily contain citation/cited data for patents covering four core digital economy sectors: Digital Product Manufacturing, Digital Product Services, Digital Technology Applications, and Digital Factor-Driven Industries.
