In April 1958, the first domestically produced sedan in Chinese history was born at FAW, named "Dongfeng." Subsequently, automobile repair factories and parts factories in various provinces and cities began manufacturing vehicles, producing over 200 types of automobiles. After structural adjustments, four relatively strong automobile production bases were formed in Nanjing, Shanghai, Jinan, and Beijing.
Since the beginning of this century, the automobile industry has entered a period of rapid development. It has gradually formed a comprehensive industrial system, achieved positive results in independent innovation, and optimized its organizational structure. According to data released by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers on January 11, 2024, in 2023, China's automobile production and sales both exceeded the 30 million mark for the first time, reaching a historic high. Among these, exports totaled 4.91 million units, positioning China to potentially become the world's largest automobile exporter. In 2023, China produced and sold 30.161 million and 30.094 million vehicles, respectively, representing year-on-year increases of 11.6% and 12%. Automobile exports reached 4.91 million units, a 58% increase compared to the previous year. In 2022, China became the world's second-largest automobile exporter.
As of October 2024, CnOpenData has compiled data on over 60,000 automobile models, covering more than 400 fields, including model name, manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP, 元), manufacturer, vehicle class, energy type, emission standard, launch time, maximum power (kW), maximum torque (N·m), transmission type, body structure (车身结构), engine specifications, and dimensions (length × width × height, mm). This dataset aims to support related research efforts.
