In April 1958, the first domestically produced passenger car in Chinese history, named "Dongfeng," was manufactured by FAW. Subsequently, automotive repair factories and parts manufacturers across various provinces began vehicle production, developing over 200 vehicle types. After structural adjustments, four major automotive production bases emerged in Nanjing, Shanghai, Jinan, and Beijing.

Specifically, annual production and sales totaled 30.161 million and 30.094 million units respectively, representing year-on-year growth of 11.6% and 12%. Automotive exports surged by 58% to 4.91 million units. In 2022, China had already become the world's second-largest automotive exporter.
