A Securities Investment Fund Management Company (fund company) refers to a corporate entity established in China with approval from the China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC) to engage in securities investment fund management business.
In a narrow sense, fund companies specifically refer to CSRC-approved public fund management companies engaged in securities investment fund management. Broadly, fund companies are divided into public fund companies and private fund companies. Public fund companies operate under CSRC supervision, with their practitioners recognized as fund industry professionals. Private fund companies currently remain unregulated (though the new Fund Law may bring them under CSRC oversight).
Fund company practitioners encompass individuals conducting fund-related activities under institutional affiliation, including full-time employees with labor contracts, as well as personnel engaged through service agreements or dispatched arrangements. This includes professionals in fund sales, product development, research analysis, investment management, trading, risk control, settlement, audit supervision, compliance management, IT, financial management, and human resources, along with management personnel in related departments.
