With the continuous development of society and increasingly frequent information exchange, the role of media has become more prominent. As a crucial tool for guiding public opinion, media shoulders significant social responsibilities. For a long period, traditional mainstream media, particularly authoritative state-owned media with dominant positions, has served as the vanguard of public opinion supervision. However, with the advent of social transformation and the rise of new media, the dominant position of traditional mainstream media in public opinion supervision faces challenges from internet-based new media platforms.
Official newspapers, as a form of traditional mainstream media, are directly controlled by central or local government institutions. As state-owned media, they consistently maintain absolute initiative in the "mainstream public opinion sphere." There exists significant heterogeneity between official newspapers and new media in terms of information content, agenda-setting, and discourse styles. In the internet era, it is a noteworthy topic to explore how provincial official newspapers strengthen internet-oriented thinking, leverage print media advantages and regional characteristics, and enhance their capabilities in guiding public opinion.
CnOpenData has compiled detailed reporting information from official newspapers of Sichuan, Heilongjiang, Qinghai, Guangxi, Hubei, Fujian, Shanghai, Jilin, Liaoning, Inner Mongolia, and Guizhou, ultimately forming the Chinese Provincial Official Newspaper Dataset to support academic research on media issues. Data from more provinces will be gradually released in subsequent phases.
