Research on the Impact of Multinational Market Diversification on Innovation Resilience of Private Enterprises under the Background of De-globalization
在当今复杂的国际经济环境下,在组织和创新上具有相对弱势地位的民营企业如何抵御逆全球化带来的冲击?基于国际化战略而提升企业的技术吸收和创新能力,是新兴经济体企业国际化的一个重要的理论逻辑,但如何克服逆全球化对新兴经济体如中国企业的创新阻力?则是国际化战略和创新理论值得研究的重要课题。本文融合国际化和创新韧性的相关理论,分析了跨国市场多样化对企业创新韧性(创新稳定性、创新适应性和创新突破性)的影响,并基于LLL理论从链接(Linkage)—杠杆(Leverage)—学习(Learning)方面探讨了其内在渠道机制。基于中国民营上市企业的样本发现,跨国市场多样化显著提升了逆全球化危机下企业的创新稳定性、创新适应性和创新突破性,即企业的创新韧性随着其跨国市场多样化程度的增加而提升。这一促进作用随着制度距离的增加而削弱。作用机制检验表明,跨国市场多样化主要通过海外关系链接、海外资源杠杆和海外双元学习三种渠道机制影响企业创新韧性。拓展性分析表明,当民营跨国企业仅持有海外子公司少数股权,跨国市场多样化对创新韧性的促进作用不显著。无论是在全球化国家还是逆全球化国家部署多样化市场,民营跨国企业的创新韧性均能得到显著提升。跨国市场多样化对创新韧性的促进效应主要体现在制造类和科技类行业。本文研究框架将逆全球化下的创新危机、国际化战略、创新韧性等有机结合,深化和发展了逆全球化背景下民营企业创新与国际化的理论和实践研究。
Abstract
When faced with a complex international economic environment, how can private enterprises, which are relatively disadvantaged in terms of organization and innovation, resist the impact of de-globalization? Enhancing a company's technological absorption and innovation capabilities based on an internationalization strategy is an important theoretical logic for the internationalization of firms in emerging economies. However, how to overcome the innovation resistance posed by deglobalization to firms in emerging economies, such as Chinese enterprises, is an important topic worth studying in the context of internationalization strategy and innovation theory. Based on the literature on organizational resilience and innovation resilience, this paper analyzes the impact of multinational market diversification on firms' innovation resilience (innovation stability, innovation adaptability, and innovation breakthrough), and explores the internal mechanism based on the Linkage-Leverage-Learning (LLL) theory. Based on a sample of Chinese privately-owned listed companies, the study finds that multinational market diversification significantly enhances firms' innovation resilience — specifically, innovation stability, innovation adaptability, and innovation breakthrough — during deglobalization crises. This positive effect increases with the degree of multinational market diversification. The effect is more pronounced in privately-owned firms weakens with greater institutional distance. The mechanism test shows that the three main channel mechanisms of multinational market diversification, namely overseas relationship linkage, overseas resource leverage and overseas dual learning, affect the innovation resilience of enterprises. Additional analysis reveals that when private multinational enterprises hold only minority equity stakes in their foreign subsidiaries, the positive effect of multinational market diversification on innovation resilience is not significant. Nevertheless, deploying multinational market diversification — whether in globalized or de-globalized countries — can significantly enhance the innovation resilience of private multinational enterprises. Moreover, the positive impact of multinational market diversification on innovation resilience is primarily concentrated in the manufacturing and technology-intensive industries. The research framework organically integrates the innovation crisis under deglobalization, internationalization strategies, and innovation resilience. It deepens the theoretical and practical research on innovation and internationalization of private enterprises in the context of deglobalization.
