Among the three industries driving China's economy, industrial enterprises hold a distinctive position as vital contributors to domestic economic development. As the primary material production sector, industry provides essential material products for residential livelihoods and economic activities across various sectors - a critical function irreplaceable by any other industrial domain. Industrial enterprises not only supply the material foundation for economic operations, but also represent the most R&D intensive, technologically innovative, and influential sector. Nations and regions that successfully transcend the "middle-income trap" and join developed economies universally maintain high manufacturing proportions during advanced industrialization stages, underscoring the paramount importance of robust industrial development.
Official statistics reveal that in 2019, 129 Chinese enterprises entered the Fortune Global 500 list, with one-quarter being manufacturing-focused corporations.
Furthermore, the industrial sector's extensive industrial chains, broad economic spillover effects, strong employment absorption capacity, and technology diffusion capabilities make it indispensable for driving economic growth in underdeveloped regions.
Industrial enterprise data, spanning 1998-2013, remains one of the most frequently utilized economic datasets in academia. However, significant informational gaps persist regarding fundamental attributes such as enterprise registration dates, organization codes, taxpayer identification numbers, operational periods, and addresses. CnOpenData addresses these limitations by integrating national business registration data, presenting an enhanced version of China's industrial enterprise basic information. This dataset facilitates improved cross-database matching capabilities, substantially expanding researchers' analytical potential.
Recognizing the economic significance of industrial enterprises, CnOpenData employs exact matching and fuzzy matching methodologies based on enterprise names to consolidate basic enterprise information. The exact matching table, requiring complete name correspondence, yields approximately 780,000 observations. The fuzzy matching table, incorporating entities with name similarities, expands coverage to 840,000 observations through advanced matching algorithms.
