With the growing importance of intellectual property protection, the establishment of a patent invalidation system has become a crucial mechanism to strengthen comprehensive protection throughout the entire intellectual property chain and promote high-quality development of IP protection. Currently, various types of patent invalidation systems exist in countries worldwide.

The Reexamination and Invalidation Department of the Patent Office under China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA), established on April 5, 1985, serves as an internal agency of CNIPA. It is responsible for adjudicating requests for patent invalidation.

From the date when a patent right is announced by the patent administrative authority under the State Council, any entity or individual that considers the granted patent right inconsistent with relevant provisions of the Patent Law may request to invalidate the patent right. After the Reexamination and Invalidation Department issues and enforces a decision to invalidate a patent right, CNIPA will register and announce the decision, constituting the official patent invalidation notice.

CnOpenData has compiled this information into China's Patent Invalidation Data Sources A and B. Source A organizes detailed information by patent type: the information table displays decision number (决定号), patent number (专利号), invention title (发明名称), patentee (专利权人), invalidation requester (无效宣告请求人), and issuance date (发文日) of invalidated patents. The details table provides comprehensive documentation of basic information during the application and authorization stages of invalidated patents. Source B primarily presents legal status details of wholly or partially invalidated patents, including fields such as patent ID (专利ID), transaction type ID (事务类型ID), transaction type in Chinese (事务类型中文), transaction details (事务类型明细), transaction announcement date (事务数据公告日), examination conclusion (审查结论), invalidation decision date (无效宣告决定日), and invalidation decision number (无效宣告决定号), facilitating in-depth academic research on patent-related issues.
