Cost of living data for global residentsNEW

Typhoon disasters rank among the most frequent and severe natural calamities globally, posing a significant global challenge to human survival and development. According to statistical data from the Typhoon Climate Change Assessment Report compiled by the ESCAP/WMO Typhoon Committee, tropical cyclones worldwide cause an average of 20,000 fatalities and over $10 billion in economic losses annually. Given the externality, intergenerational equity, and global nature of climate issues, typhoon impacts, prevention, and response have become focal and complex concerns across society, prompting numerous academic studies and the establishment of specialized typhoon research institutes and projects.

Typhoons exert multifaceted impacts not only on nature but also on economic and social systems. Macroscopically, while sudden natural disasters like typhoons severely damage infrastructure, buildings, and human lives—negatively affecting local economic development—they simultaneously present opportunities for urban renewal. Such events resolve conflicts between land redevelopment and durable structures during urban growth, injecting new momentum into local economies. Microscopically, the substantial destruction imposes immense fiscal pressure on local governments for short-term rescue and reconstruction, potentially prompting stricter corporate tax enforcement to boost revenue. Consequently, reduced corporate tax avoidance may enable affected enterprises to secure greater government subsidies and credit resources in the future.

The Typhoon Database developed by CnOpenData comprehensively covers global typhoon information through 2019, structured into three sub-tables:

  • Basic Information (typhoon ID, Chinese/English names, occurrence date)
  • Path Information (intensity, coordinates, wind speed, direction)
  • Wind Circle Radius (path ID, wind speed level, direction)
This integrated dataset offers high-quality resources for typhoon-related research.

Temporal Coverage

  • Basic Information: 2000–2024.9 (updatable as needed)
  • Path Information: 1950–2024.9 (updatable as needed)
  • Wind Circle Radius: 2015–2024.9 (post-matching; updatable as needed)
