The national 1:250,000 public version fundamental geographic data covers China's land territory and major islands including Taiwan Island, Hainan Island, Diaoyu Islands, South China Sea Islands, and their adjacent waters, totaling 816 map sheets. The geospatial reference adopts China Geodetic Coordinate System 2000 (国家大地坐标系), 1985 National Height Datum (国家高程基准), and latitude-longitude coordinates. The dataset has undergone spatial accuracy and attribute confidentiality processing through cartographic security technologies, complying with Several Provisions on the Representation of Content in Public Maps, Supplementary Provisions on the Representation of Content in Public Maps, and Regulations on the Disclosure of Fundamental Geographic Information.
While ensuring national security, we actively promote social applications of fundamental surveying and mapping achievements to meet growing public demands for geographic data. Approved by the Ministry of Natural Resources, the "National Geographic Information Resource Directory Service System" now provides free download services for partial 1:250,000 data with continuous version updates. Current downloadable data is organized by standard 1:250,000 map sheets with 2015 temporal validity, containing 9 feature layers: hydrography (points, lines, polygons), highways/railways (lines), settlements (points, polygons), settlement names (annotation points), and natural feature names (annotation points).
The provided data constitutes original vector data rather than finalized maps, exhibiting visual differences from symbolized cartographic products. Users must strictly implement regulations from Map Management Regulations when creating maps using downloaded geographic data. Maps intended for public release shall undergo official map review procedures as required by law.
