  Food safety constitutes a critical public health issue concerning human life and health. In recent years, frequent food safety incidents have posed significant threats to public well-being, becoming a focal point of societal concern.

  Food is the paramount necessity of the people, and safety is the prerequisite for food consumption. The inherent information asymmetry between consumers and producers necessitates a robust sampling and inspection system to regulate food production processes. Public exposure of inspection results facilitates social supervision, thereby enhancing food safety. Food sampling data is closely associated with the following issues:

  • Ecological Security and Food Safety. While modern agricultural technologies have increased grain yields, they have also led to the misuse of animal/plant hormones and pesticides. Driven by economic interests, the use of pharmaceuticals to shorten growth cycles and reduce production costs has become widespread.
  • Capital Markets and Food Safety. Studies indicate that short-selling threats in capital markets improve product quality in listed food enterprises. These effects spill over to other local firms through supply chain collaboration, peer effects, and reduced information asymmetry, demonstrating a governance externality in food quality.
  • Consumer Preferences and Food Safety. Beyond price mechanisms, consumer preferences are influenced by factors such as "information search costs" and "preference for trustworthy brands". Strong brand equity enhances consumers' willingness to pay for equivalent products. Food safety also serves as a crucial dimension in ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) initiatives of food companies.

  The State Administration for Market Regulation's food safety sampling data, compiled by CnOpenData, comprehensively covers China's food inspection results from 2014 onwards, including both qualified and non-compliant products. The dataset comprises:

  • Basic Information Table: Contains food name(食品名称), labeled manufacturer(标称生产企业名称), inspection frequency(抽检次数), and qualified/non-compliant counts(不/合格次数).
  • Inspection Details Table: Includes inspected entity(被抽检单位名称), province(所在省份), trademark(商标), manufacturer address(标称生产企业地址), production date/batch number(生产日期/批号), specifications(规格型号), inspection result(抽检结果), test items(检测项目名称), standard values(标准值), and detected values(检测值). This dataset provides authoritative and comprehensive resources for food safety research.
