The ocean constitutes one of Earth's largest ecosystems, exerting critical influence on global species survival. However, marine environments have faced severe pollution issues in recent years, posing significant threats to both ecosystems and human health, particularly evident in coastal waters.
Coastal water quality serves as a vital indicator for assessing the ecological environment of nearshore areas. With the ongoing advancement of the "Beautiful Bays" protection and construction initiative, China's coastal water quality has steadily improved. According to reports from relevant authorities, in 2021, 81.3% of China's coastal waters met national Class I and II seawater quality standards, while 5.2% fell into Class III, and 13.5% were classified as Class IV or inferior Class IV. Water quality in certain estuaries and bays still requires improvement.
As ecological civilization awareness continues to grow across society, the imperative for strict regulation and enhancement of coastal water quality becomes increasingly prominent. Against this backdrop, CnOpenData presents China's seawater quality monitoring dataset, encompassing comprehensive offshore water quality monitoring indicators up to 2017, to facilitate related research.
