The Press Card serves as the official work identification credential for journalists engaged in news gathering activities within China's news organizations. It is uniformly printed and issued by the General Administration of Press and Publication (GAPP), bearing a unique GAPP-assigned number. The card becomes valid only when stamped with the official seals of GAPP, the Press Card Issuance Special Seal, the Annual Verification Special Seal, and the steel seal of the issuing news organization.
In early 2015, editorial staff from central and local key news websites as well as national industry news websites began receiving Press Cards in batches. This initiative formally integrates qualified online news editors into a unified management system nationwide. Through standardized Press Card administration, the program not only elevates the overall professionalism of online editorial personnel but also fosters complementary synergy between traditional and digital media platforms.
