With the continuous development of modern society and increasing frequency of information exchange, the role of media has become increasingly prominent. As crucial instruments for guiding public opinion, media organizations bear significant social responsibilities. For an extended period, traditional mainstream media, especially state-owned media with dominant positions, have served as vanguards of public opinion supervision. However, with the advent of social transformation and the rise of new media, the dominant status of traditional mainstream media in opinion supervision has been challenged by emerging digital platforms.

Official newspapers, as key components of traditional mainstream media, are directly controlled by central or local government institutions. These state-owned media have consistently maintained absolute initiative in the "mainstream discourse sphere." Significant heterogeneities exist between official newspapers and new media in terms of content production, agenda-setting, and discourse patterns. In the internet era, it is particularly noteworthy to explore how provincial official newspapers strengthen internet-oriented thinking, leverage print media advantages and regional characteristics, and enhance their capabilities in guiding public opinion.

CnOpenData has systematically compiled detailed reporting information from official newspapers across 31 provinces, municipalities, and autonomous regions including Sichuan, Heilongjiang, Qinghai, Guangxi, Hubei, Fujian, Shanghai, Jilin, Liaoning, Inner Mongolia, and Guizhou, ultimately forming the Official Newspaper Dataset of Chinese Provinces to facilitate scholarly research on media-related issues.
