Against the backdrop of reform, opening-up, and the establishment of a socialist market economy with Chinese characteristics, market entities across various industries and economic sectors actively participate in market activities, providing sustained momentum for economic development in China and globally.
Over decades of China's market economy development, despite substantial scale, a significant number of enterprises struggle to sustain operations amidst evolving market conditions. The average lifespan of Chinese enterprises remains significantly shorter than those in Europe, America, Japan, and South Korea, imposing heightened demands on China's institutional environment, financial support systems, and entrepreneurial capabilities.
Publicly disclosed basic information on registered industrial and commercial enterprises in China offers critical data support for enterprise research. While previous entry-exit statistics primarily focused on annual snapshots (counting new entrants and exits within a given year), this dataset retrospectively tracks survival statuses of cohorts of enterprises based on their registration year. Specifically, it visualizes the dissolution (注销) and active operation (在业) statuses—during a target observation year—of enterprises registered in a specific city within registration duration brackets (within 1 year, 1-3 years, 3-5 years, and 5-10 years). Further granularity is achieved through classification by enterprise ownership type (企业性质) and major industry sectors (行业大类), providing exceptional data infrastructure for studying enterprise survival patterns and lifespan dynamics in China.
