The Press Card serves as a valid work identification document for journalists and editors conducting news-gathering activities in Chinese news organizations. It is uniformly printed and issued by the General Administration of Press and Publication (GAPP), featuring a unique national numbering system. To be valid, it must bear four official seals: the GAPP seal, the Press Card Issuance Seal, the Annual Inspection Seal, and the steel seal of the affiliated news organization.
In early 2015, editorial staff from central/local key news websites and national industry news portals began receiving Press Cards in batches. This initiative brought qualified online news editors under unified management, enhancing the professional competence of digital journalists while fostering complementary synergies between traditional and new media.
CnOpenData's China Journalist Information dataset comprises two tables: Press Card Issuance Records and Press Card Cancellation Records, containing fields such as Journalist Name(记者姓名), Affiliation(单位), Issuance/Cancellation Date(核发/注销日期), Announcement Date(公告日期), and Press Card Number(记者证号).
