  Since human society entered the information age, the rapid development and widespread application of digital technologies have given rise to the digital economy. Distinct from the agricultural economy of the agrarian era and the industrial economy of the industrial age, the digital economy represents a new economic form, a novel driving force, and emerging business models, triggering profound transformative changes across society and the economy. At present, digital technologies, products, and services are not only accelerating their penetration into traditional industries through multi-directional, multi-layered, and multi-chain integration—termed industrial digitalization—but are also fostering the continuous expansion of digital industry chains and industrial clusters, known as digital industrialization.

  Today, the digital economy has become a new engine driving China's high-quality and rapid economic growth. The various new business models spawned by the digital economy will also emerge as crucial growth points for China's economy. To better support the innovative development of the digital economy, China released the Reference Table for Classification of Core Digital Economy Industries and International Patent Classification (2023) in March 2023. This document aligns the International Patent Classification with the classification of core digital economy industries, maximizing coverage of patents related to core digital economy sectors while providing a clearer and more accurate foundation for constructing specialized patent databases.

  Following the aforementioned standards as guiding principles and aligning with the official list of Chinese universities published by the Ministry of Education, CnOpenData offers comprehensive data on digital economy patents from Chinese universities. Structurally, this dataset is divided into three categories based on patent types: invention disclosures, invention authorizations, and utility models. Each category includes a basic information table and a transaction table to present essential details and legal status information of patents, complementing citation and referenced patent data in the digital economy domain. This aims to provide academia with higher-quality and advanced thematic data support for digital economy research.
