Since human society entered the information age, the rapid development and widespread application of digital technologies have spawned the digital economy. Unlike the agricultural economy of the agrarian era or the industrial economy of the industrial era, the digital economy represents a distinct economic form, driving force, and new industrial mode, catalyzing profound and comprehensive transformations in society and economy. Currently, digital technologies, products, and services are accelerating their penetration into traditional industries across multiple dimensions, levels, and chains—referred to as industrial digitalization—while simultaneously fostering the growth and expansion of digital industrial chains and industrial clusters, known as digital industrialization.
Today, the digital economy has become a new engine driving sound and rapid growth in China. Various emerging business models spawned by the digital economy will also constitute crucial new growth points for the Chinese economy. To better support the innovative development of the digital economy, China released the Classification Reference Table of Core Digital Economy Industries and International Patent Classification (2023) in March 2023. This document maps the International Patent Classification (IPC) to core digital economy industries, comprehensively covering patents relevant to digital economy core industries and providing a clearer, more accurate foundation for constructing relevant patent databases.
CnOpenData utilized this standard as a guideline for database construction and aligned it with the list of Chinese universities released by the Ministry of Education to deliver data on digital economy patents from Chinese universities. Structurally divided by patent type—Invention Publication, Invention Authorization, and Utility Model—each section contains citation and cited tables to showcase citation relationships. This complements CnOpenData's digital economy patent application and authorization data for Chinese universities, aiming to supply academia with high-quality, cutting-edge thematic data on the digital economy.
